SUIDW - Service User Involvement Development Worker Meeting

In April 2006, SURGE hosted the first of a series of meetings aiming to bring together all those who are working on the development of service user involvement in the MHRN.  These meetings serve as a platform to talk about experiences, problems and achievements with regard to service user involvement in the hubs, and facilitate exchange, discussion and mutual support.

The first meeting was held at the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health in London, with participants coming from every area covered by the MHRN.  The second meeting was hosted by the East Midlands Hub and took place in Nottingham in July.

The Connect Roadshow

In 2005, SURGE co-hosted a roadshow in the East Midlands with the following aims:

  • To hear information and learn about Mental Health Research, the Mental Health Research Network and Good Practice in involving service users and survivor research.
  • To make connections with local research projects and discuss examples of service user/collaborative work.
  • To bring your questions and ideas and feedback.
  • To discuss future plans for research and involvement.

The event was very well received and SURGE will continue to offer support with holding similar events at the hubs in conjunction with hub staff.

In addition, SURGE will continue to contribute to individual hub events, several of which are planned.
